I have expertise is modifying behaviour of .Net applications even without the source by rewriting the IL code within the assembly. I have done this in the past for large enterprise applications where the application could not be recompiled and delivered to the client once again, due to various reasons. The solution would be to write the new code in a separate .net assembly (new DLL/exe) and use this from within the (your) existing .net application.
