I have a requirement for a command line utility to interrogate the network switch that a PC is connected to and report back both the switch name and the port interface details.
I am intending gathering this information at boot time and displaying it on the local desktop wallpaper via bginfo, so the switch details need to arrive in text files or the registry. It would also be useful if the details could be written to the application eventlog, although this is not essential.
This will be run on around 6000 PCs and servers at boot/login so it is important that the utility is compact, fast and stable.
Existing utilities to perform similar tasks (CDPR and CDPD) rely on winpcap being installed. I do not wish to have this requirement and would prefer to avoid it if possible.
