Model History 1401E Essay Proposal (On the different forms of resistance to the Nazi regime in Germany and European countries occupied by Germany by Jews during Second World War. (remember, WWI & WWII is more common in American literature, Canadian/European convention is Second World War.) Formulation of the topic: How did Jews in different areas of Germany, as well as European countries occupied by Germany, rebel against the Nazi Regime from 1939-1945? The plan I will follow in answering this question: I plan to answer this research question with the use of three different case studies that will depict the different forms of resistance demonstrated by the Jews during World War I will begin with discussing the Partisan group, also known as the Bielski partisans. Next, I will proceed to discuss the major resistance efforts of the Jews in three extermination camps, including the Treblinka extermination camp, the Sobibor extermination camp, and Sonderkommandos. Lastly, I will describe the experience of Jewish teen Annelies Marie "Anne" Frank, who’s family resisted the Nazi regime through hiding in concealed rooms behind a bookcase in the building where Anne's father, Otto Frank, worked. Arguments I plan to make: I will argue that there were three main forms of resistance. Individual resistance such as in the case of Anne Frank and her family; the resistance of Jewish groups, such as those formed in the concentration camps, and resistance organizations that did not comprise of Jews alone, such as the Bielski partisans. I will also argue that due to the brutalities and cruelties of the Nazi regime that aimed to exterminate Jews in the most inhumane ways, dying with dignity or having the courage and strength to survive could also be considered forms of resistance.
