I am looking for someone to develop an application prototype that will run in a Linux environment. I don't know much about Linux application technologies so I will need feedback on recommended implementations. The app will need to communicate with a third party server through an http API. I have a java webstart application that works with Windows and OS X but doesn't work on Linux. I've tried Ubuntu and Fedora but the client doesnt' work. I have a java webapp (.war) that should provide a solid foundation to what I need. I will be looking for suggestions whether to fix the java webstart for Linux or develop a binary application that we could compile for either Debian or RHEL/RedHat as needed. I'd prefer the binary version Java unless you can suggest why java would be a better approach. Again, this will just be a prototype to see how it functions in a Linux environment. If the app performs well, I will be adding additional API features to the app and am hoping the chosen developer will accept that additional project when ready. Any questions, please ask.
