Synchronize Engine Yard configuration with Chef repository and create persistency -- 2

Stagecoach Software Pty Ltd has a 3 server configuration on Engine Yard: one application instance, one database instance and one utility instance. Failures are occuring when minor configuration changes are made. For example, addition of an SSH user causes the crontab to disappear when the changes are applied. Changes have been made to the server directly instead of going through the chef repository so I need the configuration re-synced to the repository and chef recipes installed to make the configuration persistent.
