This project requires that you document the internal auditing configuration of both Microsoft SQL 2000 and 2005, and provide the associated queries that would be used to monitor the audit data being collected on a periodic basis looking for the latest entries into audit-related tables. The goal is not to provide specific application auditing, or table auditing at a row and field level, but rather to provide a classic audit trail of user access (logon, logoff, logon failure) and administrative access/use such as configuration change, user/rights management, database/table creation or DDL manipulation - that sort of security auditing. All scripts/commands used to enable and report on the auditing are considered the "source code" of this project, and need to be accompanied by sufficient documentation to instruct basic IT professionals (not DBA's) in their proper use. I've uploaded a zip file that contains the information that was gathered for Oracle. We're looking for the same type of information for MS-SQL. Hopefuly, this will provide a blueprint for the MS-SQL project. The Book "Implementing Database Security and Auditing" by Ron Ben Natan (ISBN: 1-55558-334-2) is effectively the "specification" for this project. If you can get your hands on this book, this may also help you complete the project.
